NEI Toolkit Designed for Facilitating Immediate Action by DECs Nationwide
The NEI is one of the cornerstones of the Obama Administration’s plan to increase jobs and facilitate long-term, sustainable economic growth for the United States.
President Obama has set a goal of doubling exports over the next five years. Since the NEI was announced in January, the President has signed an Executive Order and formed an Export Promotion Cabinet.
Helping increase exports will benefit the nation’s economy. According to the ITA, in 2008, exports represented 12.7% of U.S. GDP, and supported more than 10 million American jobs. Moreover, in his State of the Union address earlier this year, the President said that doubling exports “will support two million jobs in America."
In order to meet the President’s goal, the International Trade Administration (ITA) and the U.S Commercial Service will need more resources to support U.S. exporters domestically and overseas.
